I went to the Sonoran desert for the first time in March of 2015. I was inspired by the odd assortment of creatures and plant life I found in great abundance, as deserts are often thought of as a great void or great expanse of nothingness. I also thought about how our perception is sometimes predetermined by our past experiences, so I wanted to demonstrate that in the relationship between the crow and the iguana, which takes a surprising turn. I also wanted there to be a continuous story throughout the sketchbook. My only regret is that it took about a year for me to be inspired, so I finished most of the sketchbook on a plane or in a car and was rushed for time. I'm hoping I'll take more initiative for my next sketchbook, as I learned a lot from this experience.
