I was given this sketchbook by a friend. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it, beyond the fact that I wanted to machine stitch things to the pages. Gradually, it developed itself. I work with timetables, so began to incorporate extracts from those. I also wrote some short pieces, and included some of my own photographs which linked in with the them of travel. Although I am creative, I do not consider myself to be very artistic. However I felt that in my sketchbook that didn't matter - it was my own space to pursue ideas without judgement.
Over time, the theme of gaps also emerged. I was originally planning to cover both sides of each page, but then realised there was interest to be found in the random shapes - the borders of blank spaces - made by the machine stitching. So I left these pages as they were.
