Landscape in the context of the changing seasons has intrigued me for a long time. I have always lived in semi-urban areas in the midwestern U.S., and the land I see is usually juxtaposed with built elements. Recently much of my artwork has been devoted to this theme.
These landscapes are not usually breathtaking vistas, but scenes one might glance at only temporarily while going about daily life, or not notice at all. Sometimes there is an aesthetically planned combination of buildings and landscaping, and sometimes a random mixture of mundane or even ugly objects with randomly growing trees, weeds, flowers or shrubs. In these studies I aimed to capture beauty in places I usually pass without looking.
