Tronies are studies of heads and faces. They are not necessarily of particular people but of a type of character. The tronies I have drawn are not intended as exact copies. My approach was to make a small foray into what could be done using a hard pencil looking at these types using famous paintings from art history as the subjects for study. The meaning of the experience was to learn more of technique by limiting the medium and to learn more about some of the famous artworks of history due to the examination of them for the extended time it took to do the studies. What motivates me as an artist is to look and to see. The work shows my interest in music as sometimes the faces are those of musicians, and to see the person that lives inside the face.
