I picked up pencil drawing as a serious, daily activity a little over a year before starting this sketchbook. Mostly doodles and reference sketches without definite direction. Recently, I fell in love with the tactile feel and finished look of pen and ink drawings, so I took this sketchbook as an opportunity to introduce myself to pen technique and lineart. On each page, I sketched out figures from reference in pencil, altered and added clothing from imagination, then drew over in ink. To add a bit of my own dorky personality, I followed a theme of comic-book-world superhumans with powers so lame or obscure that they would never show up on the front page of a comic book. To parody a slogan of Marvel's X-Men, these characters are "feared and hated by a world they are too weak to protect or endanger". This sketchbook was a wonderful springboard for taking my pen and ink drawings to more creative places.
