I felt it was important that this book had a unified theme. I've been painting these flowers for the past year, and started hand-lettering projects about six months ago. I decided to combine the two for this sketchbook. I am in love with everything about color, whether it's color-drenched and gaudy scenes, or a single isolated color in an otherwise monochromatic field. I obsessively collect paintchips and love to cut apart existing images to create new stories.
I spent a week working on this, from lettering and painting to cutting each page by hand and assembling the book. I've left some process work visible (i.e. mistakes). I'll make different choices with my next sketchbook project, namely in the final assembly and rebinding technique, but I could not have enjoyed this project any more than I did. I hope you enjoy thumbing through it!
