My sketchbook is a glimpse of my art play 'in 10 years' of summer art gatherings with my family and friends. Each yearI look forward to this wonderful week of creativity to have fun with all sorts of different media. So in my sketchbook you will find painting, printing, sketching, etching, sculpting, raku firing and even some silver gelatin photography.
Every January we gather for a week at Goodlett Cottage in Mittagong the Southern Highlands in NSW , giving me the title for my sketchbook 'Escape to Mittagong' , thanks to my sister Jenny and my gorgeous brother-in-law Ross.
It took me a little while to come up with the theme for my sketchbook but once I had started pasting in some of the work that I had made over the last 10 years it became a pleasure to crop and cut my work, some copies others original, creating the sketchbook that you see today. I had to keep re-reading the terms as I got lost in the making so some work is not in portrait you need to turn the book sideways to make sense of it and there is also some hidden and some fold-out flaps - maybe a reason to visit the library to experience viewing it in person.
I am a ceramic artist and have had some success collaborating with my friend Judy Paddison - in 2012 and 2013 we were finalists in Sculpture at Scenic World the cover is a picture of our 2012 sculpture 'BlueM' made up of 2000 ceramic flowers 'BlueM' won the Peoples Choice Award. 'Out on a limb' our 2013 sculpture comprised 120 life size ceramic raku cockatoos, wonderful Australian icons, each one unique, they continue to be made and are for sale through various Australian galleries.
I hope you enjoy my sketchbook 'Escape to Mittagong' as much as I a have enjoyed making it and I look forward to visiting the Brooklyn Library one day to see it and others and also to entering the 2017 sketchbook project - I wonder what theme I will choose ?
