This project is basically me in a book, and ended up being a lot more vulnerable than I originally intended. I suppose my work usually has a similar vibe, unintentionally a bit heavy underneath the surface. If you listen closely, the book has a lot to say. I had no idea where the book was going to go, but it surprised me and ended up being pretty cohesive. I ended up going mixed media because I feel that I can express the most that way and work without as many limitations. I can never decide just one thing to work with, and I feel that it gives a piece more character.
It was really nice to have a project like this to work on. I am an ex-art major now studying jazz and have missed that way of expressing myself. The book forced me to make art a priority in my busy life, and it also really made me come to terms with myself and sort of release that to the world for the first time.
