I'm a printmaker, illustrator and art educator. I chose the theme "familiar friends" to explore the words, objects, and relationships that influence my everyday life.
I approached my sketchbook with a lot of flexibility, but I also wanted to establish a narrative and some continuity in my book. I found myself gravitating towards plants, the moon's cycles, the tarot, and inspiring words I stumbled across along the way. I was drawn to the promise of spring; of grounding and growth and renewal.
I use my art as a way to explore other interests in more depth and to connect to others with similar interests and greater knowledge. I love and value gardening, herbalism, music, poetry and the natural world (although I feel very inexperienced in my knowledge of all of those things) and I appreciate the connections I form--to people and the environment--by exploring these topics in my art.
