As an artist, I have always been fascinated with the way our minds interpret things that we sense and abstract them. In this sketchbook, I combined the "Memoir" theme with this interest by creating a songbook. Each page is dedicated to a song that has importance in my life and the artwork is a reflection of how we psychologically manifest the music. Oftentimes these interpretations are about an overall feeling I get when listening to the song and also include elements that are literal from the lyrics.
My medium is primarily magazine clippings from periodicals dating from the 1930s through the 1970s. I've always found collage work to be very bold and expressive as well as open to multiple interpretations. For this project in particular, I believe it most accurately shows how our minds take images from real life and mix them together in a kind of psychological soup--especially when listening to music.
