As a professional Female Dominatrix, my everyday life is unconventional. It only makes sense that my love life be unconventional. This sketchbook shares a glimpse of what it's like to have a loved one in jail. Currently, the U.S. prison population is over 2 million and growing. There is not enough that can be said against the prison industrial complex. This book only scratches the surface as it pertains to my personal life- the worry, the unknown, the separation. It also shows the connection, thoughtfulness, and the meaningfulness of moments we are legally permitted to share :) There are plenty of parallels between BDSM and prison life- of which I share a few.
I approached this book mostly through simple water color illustrations & pencil drawings. I also shredded up xerox copies of the letters my lover & I have sent (letters play a big part in our communication). I then added some water color washes to the paper strips, scanned them and manipulated the text digitally to use as background/texture.
I do wish I'd given myself a little more time to put the physical layout & writing together, but I am happy with the content- it was truly made with love- even the bit about mst3k.
