Every day I find myself continually immersed in discussion over the phone with my mother, Velda. This year (2017) she will celebrate her 94th birthday and her memory of times past is still very fresh, very interesting and a constant learning experience for me. Since she lives a few hundred miles away, has not joined the internet or texting world, her beautiful voice indulges me and fills in the spaces left open by the more recent, daily events in her life. I much prefer to hear about her life long ago than what she had for dinner anyway. This is just a moment in time...but I celebrate it with each call, each laugh, each memory.
We can talk for along time about the years she was growing up and what was happening in the world in the 30s, 40s and 50s. When I saw The Sketchbook theme "Guidebook to the Past"..as well as "Distance from Origin"..I knew immediately that I had to know what else...other than my mother being born, was thought up, invented or begun in her year of birth...1923!
I hope you enjoy this fun and joyful look back...and she is still looking forward!
