There were two aims with this sketchbook. First, I wanted to express visions of distance, as semi-realistic representations, maps, or a combination of the two, and then interpretations of time, as measured by instruments or as "distant in time," e.g., the skeleton fragments and the dodo bird. Second, I wanted to try a medium new to me, water-soluble colored pencils. The sketches were started with Faber-Castell PITT artist pens, excellent in the sketchbook application because they do not penetrate the paper (unless pressed to do so), and they are permanent -- they do not dissolve in water color. The subjects in the sketchbook reflect themes I use in my other art. But, the sketchbook format appeals to me as less formal, and I just have fun with it.
