I am a mixed-media artist and comic book creator. I run a comic artists group in Chicago (northsidecomics.org) as well as serve as an organizer for the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE; cakechicago.org). I like to try different techniques and impose arbitrary limits on myself to see what kind of work it produces. For this project I decided to do all my drawings with blue Bic pens (minimal pencil underdrawings) and to only draw creatures inspired by the random suggestions of http://artprompts.org/creature-prompts/. I found doing this very challenging, but it often generated some really interesting concepts. Also, it's very hard to get variation in line weight with a ballpoint pen because they are designed to give a uniform weight. So it was a fun challenge to try to use that tool to generate different textures and create depth (which was successfully achieved on some drawings, and less so on others). My interest in comics, I hope is apparent in these designs as I wanted them to tell or at least hint at a story behind each one. I hope you enjoy!
