I am an artist, and a museum & archives professional.
My passions in life are art, history, and the fantastical. Much of my work belongs within the genres of science fiction or fantasy. I specialize in abstract expressionist and minimalist artwork.
My goals are simple: I want to capture your attention. I want to reach across the abyss that separates us and pierce your heart. I want you to feel a pull within, a strong tug which feels like a sudden fall and then turns into something unexpected. I want my work to speak to you.
I would like to dedicate this sketchbook to all students reading who are struggling, or have struggled, with mental illness/health.
Academic stress and pressure is often a brutal burden on students. Add to that other issues which students are juggling like finances, relationships, family, living situations, and in many cases a part time job or two. Students are doing more than they ever have, and it's not surprising that most feel overwhelmed, hopeless, and lonely.
I know firsthand what a hard road it is. I completed a bachelors, and two masters degrees, but not without A LOT of physical and mental hardships. My personal experience was a difficult one, and not unlike many other students’ experiences. I hope to help open up the discussion on student mental health through sharing my personal experiences, the lessons I’ve learned, and the art that arose from it.
The art and poetry in this book was created during my time as a university student. It is a small sample of what I made during that time. Most of it is weird and dark, but in the end it's hopeful.
