At first, I planned to fill my sketchbook with my favorite kind of drawings - fashion illustrations. But, after the first few doodles, I realized that I wanted to make more of a statement with my work.
Ah yes, the ever-evolving creative process - you never know where it will take you. I let some thoughts simmer for awhile, then wound up following a tangent that led me to a theme for my book...
The inspiration for my sketchbook was fueled by the proliferation of "self-help" literature available in the market today. My mission was create a tongue-in-cheek "guide" to becoming the best version of yourself. I decided to illustrate that guide with a nod to my love of fashion drawing. I recalled the19th century "fashion alphabet" created by Erte. That work provided the perfect launch pad for my story.
I hope the reader enjoys the balance between the whimsical sketches and the well-intended advice offered on these pages - while always remembering that we should never take ourselves too seriously.
