I'm a writer, professor, amateur artist, and breast cancer survivor. I think of my sketchbook as a graphic essay or graphic memoir. It reflects on connections between the ravages of cancer and its treatment and the destruction wrought by mountaintop removal mining. Visiting a lodge near Sharp Top and Flat Top Mountains the weekend after my biopsy set the story in motion. I enjoy working in mixed media and collage, pen and ink, and playing with patterns.
