I’m Sarah Pimenta also known as ‘Social Fabric’ I’ve been a participatory textile artist for over twenty years & have had the opportunity to work with many amazing, diverse groups of people in very different locations internationally. I teach many skills including screen printing, mono printing and mark making. My passion is colour & texture and I am motivated by people and the groups I work with.
This project has been a great experience for me, I don’t give myself time for many personal projects & this gave me the perfect opportunity to realise an idea I’d had. From the moment I signed up I began to collect discarded scraps of paper from every workshop I delivered; bits of paper I used to blot prints with, demo drawings & prints etc that were normally thrown away (which I never liked doing). I’ve been described as a creative nomad quite recently and this sketchbook ‘The workshop that was...’ gave me a home for this collection. It holds the scraps, discarded now re worked, beautiful textures in their own right that each tell a different story & hold very precious memories of a creative collaborative experience that I once shared. I’m definitely now inspired to continue & see what develops from this idea. Thank you for the motivation!
