This sketchbook was my guilty pleasure in between working on large projects and deadlines for a big solo show. I drew for the sheer pleasure of drawing. My good friend, 'Matakia,' from NYC and I collaborated together from distant points across the USA: I in Colorado, and she in NYC. She was inspired by images of my artworks. First, she digitally altered them and sent me the images. I cut these images apart into hundreds of pieces and collaged them back together into new images. Then, my pen and ink went wild on these new images, making my marks and connecting shape to line to shape. I am primarily a sculptor, creating large pieces from wire, mixed media and found objects. Line is prevalent in my work and represents connection, journey, decision, and choice. Matakia's reinvention of my artwork images was a point of departure and inspiration for me to further deconstruct and reconstruct the images, retaining the original energy, and her energy as well. We are good friends and do not have the opportunity to see each other often. This project is a fusion of both of our creative spirits and friendship.
