I have done a lot of traveling and I always carry a camera, a sketchbook, and pen & pencil with me. These are usually very tiny little books. It is not intimidating to do tiny sketches. I also use receipts, napkins, programs, and any other small bit of paper for sketching. For this little book I decided to gather originals and make new tiny sketches on scrap paper from photos of some favorite trips. Then I pasted them into the book often adding other ink details on the pages. The paste caused many of the sketches to be slightly buckled because the papers were thin which makes the pages harder to photograph. I love the look of quickly rendered impressions but also the almost embroidery like rendering of things like rocks and buildings. I also work in yarn and fabric doing tapestry, embroidery, knit, crochet and quilting and many of my sketches have those materials in mind. I am passionate about color and the shapes of things. I love to use anything at hand to make something colorful and fun.
