I had planned to play with color in this journal. However, my life became unexpectedly chaotic, so I began gluing in work torn from old sketchbooks as though in response to that fragmentation. I also played with simple black-and-white explorations, and glued those in as well. At the end of the process, I became so frustrated with both art and life that I found myself letting go of all aesthetic “preciousness,” and instead cutting and redrawing across gaps to create new connections. The result is messy, but I sense new life in it, even joy—certainly exuberance, at least! “...art is the gap.” —Marcel Duchamp I'm also a writer.
