After abandoning drawing for several decades, I picked it back up a couple of years ago as coffee shop meditation. Filling sketchbooks and pulling from my imagination notions of fantasy that are often imbued with sweetness and cuteness, albeit frequently with dark overtones. Most of my work draws on themes from the supernatural with a good dose of “kawaii”—I’ve always been a devotee of those themes as a consumer of popular culture. My sketchbooks afford me an opportunity to be the producer of the types of images I most want to see. What can I say?--it's fun!
It has only been in the past several months that I have made my drawings public, primarily on Instagram. Now, the Sketchbook Project has given me an opportunity to share original work with others. Although with some trepidation on my part, it’s been an interesting experience to expose my private visual musing to the public. I hope I can continue to do so.
