Welcome to my “The Beauty in Nature – Volume 1.” Please follow my journey and explore nature through my eyes. The most important quality of a photograph, as with all artwork, is to evoke an emotional response. Photography has an incredible power to form a connection between the viewer and the subject. Thank you for taking the time to look at my photographic artwork I made during my afterschool art classes at Artscapade WNY.
My photography has been my passion ever since I picked up my first Holga 120 B&W film camera when I was about 5 years old walking around the Erie Zoo. I got so caught up in seeing the world through the tiny view finder that I completely forgot to advance the film to the next frame … which made one roll of film last longer than the rest! My mom was working in a photography studio at the time, and showed me how to develop the film into individual prints. I was mesmerized watching images slowly appear on the once white photo paper as it floated in the developing liquids. Much to my (and everyone’s) surprise, my “blundered” roll of film actually came out looking pretty amazing!! The one frame (that I just kept exposing images onto) is a collection of 15 different overlapping images that make one uniquely layered photograph. I was told several times that there are professional photographers that have tried countless times to achieve the same multi-layered effects I so effortless achieved and failed. As they say “it was a once-in-a-lifetime” event; however, I will continue to improve my techniques, and maybe one day I will be lucky enough to duplicate my original “blunder” in a similar photograph!!
I currently shot more digital photographs with a Nikon D5100 and 50mm prime lens that allows me to control the focus of my subject matter instead of allowing the camera to shoot in auto-focus mode. I will continue to pursue my passion of photography by exploring the wonders & beauty this vast world we live in holds. Life is about taking the time to cherish the little things we take for granted everyday ... like the artwork that only Mother Nature can creature through the ever changing colors she paints across our landscapes with each changing season or the breath-taking colors illuminated across the sky with the rise and fall of the sun!!
