Creative expression has always been the core of me, but it was dormant for a long time. Distractions, inhibitions got in the way. Every year, my dad would give me art supplies for every holiday. It saddened me that he had endless enthusiasm for what I didn’t see in myself. His death, the actual physical act of it, began an unfathomable awakening and transformation- in me, in the nature of the relationship between us. The colors, the inspiration, the new insight to manifest what the universe flows through me have been with me ever since, as has my Dad- in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
This book represents one of the endless loops coming full circle. NY was my birthplace, and his. I saw the Brooklyn Art Library on a social media site and knew I had to see it in my recent visit. This book was the perfect tribute to the new relationship between my father and me, and to the rekindled spark of creativity that is universal and so strongly present in the Sketchbook Project. It is an honor to contribute my energy and effort to what you have gathered.
