As an artist, I look inward for the inspiration in my work, at times depicting it literally and others using a more metaphorical and symbolic depiction of the introspection. For this book, I focus on life and its unpredictability, providing trials and tribulations that occur unexpectedly with varying intensities. In order to accept and look past the imperfections that life brings, I approach and embrace life through aesthetic experiences, striving to find something special in simple ordinary things. This book represents a visual narrative, depicting obstacles I have overcome and are continuing to overcome. Many of the images are based on the awe that an aesthetic experience provides, alongside struggles with body image, self-confidence, relationships, chronic pain, cancer, inherited conditions, avoidance, a neurological plaque of migraines, among others. These moments are augmented with uniquely special imagery. I find both succulents and lightbulbs, of all forms, aesthetically pleasing. The simple yet elegant complexity of their forms is awe-inspiring. To represent the human element, contour outlines and white mannequin figures are used throughout to provide the present yet disconnected feeling that occurs during many of these moments. The figures are juxtaposed with imagery of succulent plants and bulbesque forms to provide the metaphor of looking past the imperfections by finding something beautiful to appreciate despite the struggle.
