I enjoyed sketching as a kid and envisioned becoming an art teacher someday. However, after majoring in Studio Art at U.C. Davis and earning a teaching credential, many fine arts classes were cut from local public school programs following the passage of a destructive proposition at the ballot box. I've never understood who would not see the value in nurturing children's natural interest and aptitude in art, music, theater, dance, poetry, literature, photography, etc. I had to go with Plan B and pursue a career in special education from which I retired after 32 years in 2012. As it turned out, it was a very rewarding experience and I have no regrets, but it has been a pleasure sketching again, following several dormant decades, after my daughter and her partner registered me to participate in The Sketchbook Project, Volume 14, as a Christmas gift. Thank you, Sarah and Nicole!
