I live in the Inner West region of Sydney,NSW, Australia. I live with my beardy artist fiancé John-Stanley and our 18 houseplants. I sell music and movies in the city. My dream one day is to return to tattooing. I love hounds, “ugly” birds and boxing. Queer/NB, of Maori heritage.
My work is mostly 2D, and explores themes of: the culture/fine art of the tattoo, Surrealism, 90s DIY, intersectional Feminism, the automatica of mark-making, narrative illustration, portrait form and natural history.
Ink is the common thread. I sew the lines with intent, again and again. Meditate on that repetitive line. Every time I choose to smile, it is an act of rebellion. I am complete, in any state.
Originally planned as a journal of neo traditional flash sheets that reflected on the ritual of a daily schedule, I have since taken to heart that False Knees comes that encourages us to seek out the joy in looking closer.
Here, then, is the INFINITE SKETCH: pieces phished from the seemingly endless river of the camera roll in my phone. Filed away in my pocket, so easily- and now catalogued from memory after only looking at them for short, fleeting moments- mimicking that initial instant of clicking ‘save’.
This is not a statement about technology. I like technology, sometimes. I find meaning in the contrast between the handdrawn and that image flow. I am filtering and sculpting. Kinda like what a flash sheet serves to be, anyhow.
I lay covered in the stream of crosshatching and smile.
