I've been interested in repetitive patterns in nature for a long time. In the past, I explored these through drawing and painting. I wanted to use my Sketchbook Project journal as an opportunity to explore nature-inspired patterns through paper cutting. I'm fascinated by the way the light passes through each little hole, creating beautiful shadows. Involving the viewer in the art making process delights me. With this book, the viewer enters a conversation with the art piece. She controls the pacing and drama of how each shadow pattern is revealed, as she lingers, explores, or watches one paper cut build on the other. Finding the repetitive shapes that wished to appear in this book has been a ritual meditation, and I was sorry to see it end. I'm excited to explore more of the light within my work.
