Erika Snitzer is a mixed media artist living in Lancaster, PA. Most of her work lives somewhere between the canvas and sculpture, with layers of materials sealed using epoxy. Her work is inspired by her life. It reflects her love for travel, music, and good food and drink. Erika uses her creative time for reflection and introspection. Artistic process is her way of centering herself within her life and recharging for the next thing. Her best days in the studio are those where she can expand her process and grow her work through creative problem solving. Erika is always seeking something new: new bands, new restaurants, new adventures, new ways to do things. Erika strives to find the happiness and joy in everyday things. Her work is an expression of joy and humor that she wants to share with the world.
About this book from the artist: For this project, I considered how songs create images in my mind. Certain songs pluck a memory from your past or evoke a feeling. I created this artist's book in phases. I sketched images that came to me while listening to certain songs. I made journal entries about the people and places and feelings and memories connected with the songs or the bands. I pulled images from other sources and incorporated them in my mixed media piece to form a connection between the journal entry and the drawings. Working within the confines of a page is different from my usual work, which has more dimension and a sculptural feel. Here, I wanted to combine the color, imagery and emotions that come from my daily and constant consumption of rock and roll. Music is a Time Machine.
