This sketchbook holds the premise that each of us have potential, unfulfilled purposes that parallel our current life. Beneath the flurry of daily activity, these have become entangled, and maybe abandoned in our subconscious. What happens if we stop and, even if just imagining, allow ourselves to step outside the confines of the way we live our life and ask: who am I, really? Is there a world or worlds that I can fill? Are these internal, or on a universal scale?
If you enjoy these works, please check out studiogilley.com for prints and more original artwork. I became a professional artist as a second career, after realizing that art was the major source of fulfillment in my life that I tried (unsuccessfully) to push aside in favor of a more conventional career in healthcare. My experiences inform my work, which address transcending events in life, perceptions of loss, and cycles of renewal.
Thank you for looking and supporting art!
