I love creation, all types, but hadn’t painted for a while when my sister gifted me this sketchbook. I began this project by using the sketchbook as a diary with the intention of it being an extension of my personal practice. My practice includes meditation, menstruation as a spiritual practice, movement and nature immersion. At the end of each day I would look back at the moments that had passed and would express the ones that were magic, that were challenging, that were heartbreaking, that revealed the hidden, that opened up beauty in the mundane and those that simply needed to be heard. I found myself reflecting differently, perhaps deeper than I would have if I were covering the pages with written material. I placed greater importance on self expression in the moment than my likes and dislikes of colour and form. I will continue this practice.
