My submission evolved from a dream about a woman who learns to fly, gives up her cut-out self and a 1950's paper doll wardrobe in exchange for wings and freedom from who she was. There are lessons: training, acceptance, process, dance, nature, flight. Materials in this short book are familiar to me in my work - paper, repurposed prints, stencils, glue and paint. Completing the sketchbook was a breakthrough; I put it off, but once started, ideas flowed. I found myself telling a different story than the one originally planned. Suddenly the ritual of flight instruction took me and the book in a different direction and I followed.
