My amazing wife Rachel bought this sketchbook for me. I am a high school drop out with a Masters in the Science of Education. I enjoy making drawings that are based on my own ideas and experiences. The images in this sketchbook were hand done by me with minimal planning; choosing to let the work unfold from one concept to the next in a sensible way. I used four different HB lead thicknesses (0.3, 0.5,0.7, & 0.9). Blending was done by gradient and with a blending stump. Erasure was done with a white synthetic eraser. Aerosol spray fixative was applied to prevent smudging. No other media or tools were used.
This book is the sketchbook I kept while reading about M-theory from about a dozen books on the subject by experts in the field of String Theory and Particle Physics. I do not have a background in Physics or Geometry so many of the things I learned about I do not actually understand. The drawings are extrapolations of these combinations: things I think I understand, things I probably don't, and things I know I do not. As a result, this book is a universe of itself reflecting not actual reality as it is but a way it might be if it operated through my ability to represent it only. This reflects my motivation as an artist; while I have shared reality with others, in my artwork I control what I do. No one outside of the image I am making is responsible for or can challenge my version of reality. This is enough that the boundary of my control is established. Art grounds me in reality.
The "theories", "axioms" and other assertions written in the book are my own. They are spare ideas that I included as they occurred to me. The statements are not factual, based in experiment, grounded in mathematics, or taken directly from the books I read. All contents in the book, while informed by a close reading of the books listed in the index, are not to be taken as evidence of anything beyond what they are: drawings I made to share with whoever takes time to look at the images I made. Any misuse of the images I made, deliberate or not, are outside of my responsibility.
