I have learned a while back to throw caution to the wind and just go for it. Try different things, find your boundaries & push past them, don’t be scared to fail. Suck at something? Try it again. Screw something up? Figure out a way to make it work. This book is a testament to that. No plan, no fear of screwing up (but a lot of figuring out a way to unscrew something up). My wife, Natalie, is my inspiration. She pushes me to do better, be better. It is because of her that I have this book, so if you are reading this, you can thank her.
My initial thoughts staring at the blank pages were to fill it with what I know, digital illustrations pasted into the book. I decided that I wanted to see how much of the book I could fill with things I have never done (or hadn't done in a long time.) I skipped around in pages and mediums. As I filled the book with ideas I noticed a loose narrative about expectations and pressure that people put on themselves, then moves to more existential imagery. Finally, it comes out the other side with a more motivating message. It's dark, but not gory. It has moving parts that were all figured out on the fly. This book (and my wife) have supercharged me to continue creating things.
