I recently relocated to NYC, and I am obsessed with the buildings, as well as the light. When I started out on the sketchbook, I thought I'd be filling all the pages with watercolor/Sharpie images of streets in New York. But, the Sharpie bled through, so I incorporated collage on each facing page, using images from an exhibit at FIT, maps, and pictures from tourism pamphlets. My process is pretty simple. I get an idea in my head, begin working on it, and then the art starts making itself. This sketchbook ended up being about voyeurism, isolation in a densely populated city, and the integration of beauty in frustration.
