I work as a mixed media artist in abstraction so this was a different project for me - to draw from life.
The idea for this sketchbook came when I was taking photos of houses in my neighbourhood, in Bangalore, India - to remember this place that I may be leaving after almost 30 years of living here.
What I found was that each frame would have foliage in the picture, despite urbanisation and our continual pleas to save the trees, we do still have a plethora of gorgeous trees to enjoy.
Disconnection is the theme for my project but wouldn't it be nice to call it connection? We can live in harmony with nature and not destroy it. My sketchbook is intended to bring this to light for me and for you. All these trees were seen in blossom this March 2019.
I consider myself an environmentally aware artist and use found objects in my work, grow my own cacti to save water and just love the trees around my home.
