The sketchbook “Fear and Loathing: Monsters in My Closet” was motivated by childhood objects (paper dolls) and focuses on memories of fear that stemmed from a constant feeling of monsters in the closet. I was interested in using the paper dolls outside of their tactile sense and digitally recreating those experiences from childhood. The drawings and digital images contain many layers that veil and disguise feelings of fear.
I explore the abandoned and recollected memories of fear inscribed in the consciousness. By way of juxtaposition and overlapping of layers, I draw upon boundaries of fear merging the shapes to create a fusion between past and present experiences.
