As an artist I am constantly involved with the creative process of transformation: spirit to image. My expression takes form as Sumi-e, sumi collage, collage/assemblage, block printing, mixed media and jewelry. The day we lost power due to low land snow that turned to ice I started and completed the sketchbook within 3 days – mostly by oil lamp light! That was because: first I procrastinated as in too many ideas; then I panicked when I saw samples of other artist’s pages; finally I kicked the art critic away, settled down and selected pieces that I had created during 2011 as instruction samples and/or collaged onto the selected artwork. I write a poem a day – stream of consciousness style – so I went through my poetry notebook since no power = no computer. The poetry critic reared its ugly head but I persevered to hand print the poems where they seemed predestined to fit the selected art work adhered to the pages. Felt revitalized by the project and plan to tackle it again for 2013 as well as teach a collage class aimed at creating pages for 2013 sketchbook.
