I don't really sketch and encaustic doesn't work on paper unless it has some type of rigid support. I wanted to do more journaling & collage but my time constraints didn't allow. I decided I would make my Sketchbook more personal...to use photographs, abstract collage & mixed media as creative tools. I've included some images that are reflective of the 50's and some personal photos. I've included Hanah & Gracie...my 2 dogs. I also wanted to free myself from having to make ea. page be perfect & complete. To leave it as it is. The majority of work was done in January in Austin in my studio. It was damp & wet & it affected the pages especially the ones that had not been glued together for added support. A page would be completed, I'd close the book, come back the next day & the pages would be stuck together. Finally after repair & touching up, I just let them be but added wax paper between the pages.
I've included my Dad in this Project also. He died several years ago but he appears as a memory I have by way of the photo of a booth in a restaurant. This was the scene of a hilarious moment between my Dad & I. I thought it was funnier than he did. Many yrs later and about a week before this restaurant was to be torn down, I was back there again and seated where I could see this booth. I knew he was there. I made a series of photographs of it so I could recall my memory. I came across them while looking for images & knew he had to be included.
